EGREGORES
It was the Chelsea / Man Utd Premiership football match yesterday, and living in Fulham I get to marvel at the amount of drinking that has nurtured the yeasty beer bellies of the supporters and the eloquence and high brow lyrics of songs like ‘celery.' I won't quote it here but I'm sure you could imagine - you can tell I'm a rugby fan already can't you? Anyway match days really highlight what I call an egregore. I first heard this word about 15 years ago - thank you Mike Robinson - and have channelled information and the relevance of it ever since. Witnessing this weekends tribal / cultish / crowd display, I thought it was time to bring the term ‘Egregore' out of its rare and limited closet and into the mainstream.
An egregore can be defined as a ‘group thought form' which can assume the characteristics of having effectiveness and influence greater than the sum of its individual members. To quote Gaeten Delaforgem ...
‘The Egregore continually interacts with its members but only as long as they behave and act in line with its original aim.... If the process is continued a long time the egregore will take on a kind of life of its own, and can become so strong that even if all its members should die, it would continue to exist on the inner dimensions and can be contacted even centuries later, by a group of people prepared to live the lives of the original founders.'
Major religion will be an obvious example; a strictly adhered to martial arts a lesser one. Fanatical Chelsea football supporters live within one, and on a lighter note, any teenage kid today that identifies with the ‘teddy boys' of the 50's can tap into and access identity, emotion, beliefs and stream of consciousness from the egregore that was the ‘teddy boy' movement.
Egregores have such relevance right now because those that know me, are aware that however strongly I connect to the source or access other realms, it is always with the intention of helping us as individuals, in the here and now, raise our vibration for our highest good. That very intention will then have resonance with the whole. The difference is that over the hundreds of years up until now people have tried to create the ‘whole' first to try and then change individuals... This is the core energy we are currently de- linking form.
I don't want to dwell too much on the esoteric aspects of egregores as they will probably be internet researchable - because over the last millennium, when it wasn't our group lesson to grow as it is now, esoteric knowledge was mostly restricted to cults, orders and sects with mysterious practices, ceremonies and understanding of the group mind. This is why some people today venture into the occult, because they know it is possible to access ancient energy - an egregore. In popular culture, the Mummy films, are basically taking the premise of a strong leader re-awakening both the Egyptian cults and ancient Chinese warriors.
An important point is that much of an egregore's energy hangs around on the astral plane, where constructed thought forms ‘live' and entities, energies and ‘lower' level spirits can attach onto it... I felt this first hand when heavily involved in Martial arts. The style I was an instructor for, had a Master, and a constructed belief system that ‘this is the way' so initiates would gain initial self worth, confidence, sense of identity and achievement by being a member of the organisation... Even though verbal homage was paid to the development of self... it was actually structured that your identity and worth was as result of the group, not yourself.
They never knew I was psychic, and building up to the time I was going to leave the style, I would see the students, and grown men who had been in the style for years talk the same way, dress the same, holiday the same way, etc... That was just a minor part; the biggest was they had lost their sense of self worth as an individual, fearful of leaving for fear of not having an identity or a higher connection to anything other than the group - in essence they had stymied their spiritual connection... When I left I could feel the hooks of ‘energy' from the astral plane - the egregore- trying to suck my belief system back in. Having the tools though it was easy to de-link from and release any attachment to the group.
Those qualities I mentioned in the last paragraph of self worth, confidence, sense of identity and achievement being dependant on the group identity are a classic indication... It is worth asking yourself would you be fearful of not supporting your football team anymore, of leaving the corporation you work for, of using Reiki healing your own way, not as part of a system, of being able to do with out Buddhist practices or daily yoga... or anything that is group run and has a hold on you? ... Just to ask the question is very revealing. You can explore the concept deeper too, re-evaluating your beliefs about the medical profession, our so called democracy, the energy of money and such like...
So saying that, I'm trying not to look forward to the Welsh Rugby autumn internationals in November ;-0, but one thing is for sure, my self worth and identity won't be dependant on the outcome.
